Phoenix agrees deal to roll out 2San testing kits in Numark and Rowlands pharmacies

Phoenix has struck a deal with technology company 2San Global Ltd to provide 10 different types of diagnostic home testing kits to Numark members and Rowlands pharmacies across the UK.

The kits will allow patients to test for bowel cancer, stomach ulcers, hypothyroidism, iron deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infection, the menopause, male fertility and drugs abuse.

Phoenix said Numark will be the first wholesaler in the UK to distribute 2San’s tests “at affordable prices,” although it did not say how much it was charging its members for the tests.

Phoenix said Rowlands branches will offer patients in-pharmacy and online support and advice to ensure patients “are given clear recommendations based on their test results.”

Phoenix also said pharmacy teams have been given training materials to answer patient questions while “plans are in place to make in-pharmacy treatments available for selected conditions” that are diagnosed by 2San’s tests.

“We are excited to have these home testing kits available to Numark members and Rowlands Pharmacies. Extending diagnostics services to community pharmacies via home testing is a crucial step in supporting the NHS,” said Rowlands Pharmacy’s superintendent pharmacist Stephen Thomas.

“We aim to assist customers to detect potential conditions early and take control of their health. By providing treatment guidance for colleagues working in pharmacy we aim to help customers manage their condition in the event of a positive result.”

Phoenix said continuing challenges faced by the NHS, an ageing population and patients looking for more innovative solutions will see the home testing market grow by more than 50 per cent by 2030.
